Other magazines sometimes go for a different approach and show the character not looking at the camera, not smiling, not shot head on with the character.Illustration Based:
Illustration based magazine covers are drawn illustrations for the cover. This type of magazine cover was the only type used up until 1930's. Most illustration based covers intend to convey something funny or out of the ordinary. Most magazine covers that use this type of cover are independently published magazines.
Type Based:
Typed based magazine covers are covers with just text on the front, this approach is usually to strike or shock the viewers. The way words are present in this type stand out and are powerful. This type is alike the illustration based type in that both are rarely used.Concept Based:
Concept based magazine covers are covers usually to convey a message fast, and understandable to the viewers. Businesses usually use this type of magazine but besides that this cover type is rare.

My favorite Cover
The cover of Pedal uses a shallow depth of field for this photo of a man wading further and further into the (not shallow) water in order to muster a feeling of wistfulness and adventure.
I enjoyed how this portrait was very simple. I liked how there wasn't much to distract you from the guy in the water, the photo also forces you to wonder why he has a bike in the ocean. I wonder if the photo would have a different feel if the rule of thirds was applied and the character wasn't in the middle of the photo.

Portraits & Self-Portraits Intro
2-3 Tips:
Altering your perspective, for example taking a portrait of someone Bir's eye view or as close to the ground as possible, can give your portrait a real wow factor.
Faming your subject, for example framing your characters face between two fences, can give your image depth and can draw the viewer's eye to a point of interest in the photo.
Environmental portrait:
I liked the background of the picture and how the logs almost lead your eye to the logger. I liked how they didn't take the portrait right up close to the logger.
I like this photo because the photographer broke the rule of thirds and placed the character in the middle of the picture. But I dislike how there is so much white in the photo.
Photography Self Portrait:
I like how the photographer broke the rule of thirds and left the subjects eyes in the center of the picture. I also liked how she isn't looking at the camera but the mirror she is holding up makes he eye contact hit the lens.
I liked how the character's face was present through the camera lens he is holding up. But I dislike how his hand is so big in the picture.
Casual Portrait:
I liked this photo because of the fedora he is holding , but I also like this photo because the portrait is just about the character and nothing in the background.
Portrait Plan: I am going to take picture of my skateboarding friends and I am going to shoot in my friends apartment and in my room as well as the skatepark. I am going to use props like skateboards and such to converse who me and mi amigos es.

Symmetry and Patterns
Symmetry and patterns are great for creating eye catching compositions in situations where they are not expected. Breaking the symmetry of pattern in some way allows you to introduce tension or a focal point in your picture.
Viewpoint
Viewpoint is the positioning the photo is captured from. Viewpoint can greatly affect the theme of a photo. First person, Birds eye, Below the subject, etc.
Create Depth
Depth is created by adding objects in the fore ground, middle ground or background.
Overlapping objects with one another can also help to create depth.
Cropping
Cropping allows you to get rid of excess background "noice", allowing the viewer to only focus on the subject.
